Corporate Social Responsibility

CSR is an integral part of the business and we believe in value co-creation for the communities we are present in.

CSR In India

As a responsible corporate citizen, we at Vestas are very conscious of our social responsibility. CSR is an integral part of the business and we believe in value co-creation for our stakeholders and in communities we are present. Therefore, our work aims to cover all business operations across projects, manufacturing, and service businesses under CSR.

Our CSR is undertaken in a planned and strategic manner through a structured process and judicious utilization of resources to maximize impact and create positive social change. The key drivers for us are our global commitment to six of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) besides some other national imperatives and local needs and also Vestas India’s CSR Policy.

CSR Policy in India
Manufacturing site

Vestas has been undertaking a CSR programme in communities in the vicinity of its blade factory in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The programme is focused on various community needs such as primary education, child development, drinking water, sanitation, economic empowerment of women and others such.

We are also supporting a STEM education programme to promote scientific learning amongst children and better teaching methodology for teachers among others.

Project site

As a commitment to obtaining and maintaining ‘social license to operate’, Vestas through careful assessment and planning carries out community engagement programmes when we enter a new geographical area to set up a wind farm.

We work in close collaboration with our customers to synergise efforts in communities for better impact. Currently, we are conducting such programmes in Karnataka and Gujarat. As and when the need arises we also expand the scope to other locations

Service site

Long after we have completed work of building wind farms, our presence on ground remains, so we seek to continue being engaged with communities around the sites to maintain trustworthy relations.

Our CSR efforts focus on mainly supplementary work to address specific local needs in communities in states such as Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Other projects

We constantly endeavour to expand our scope of CSR work. This may be linked to our business footprints or cover issues that are independent of geographical imperatives.

In the past we have also responded to natural calamities in the aftermath, and helped people rebuild their lives.

Vestas globally has chosen 6 SDG's

Vestas contributes with varying degrees to all 17 goals; however, we have selected six goals that are high impact areas for our business operations.

Vestas is committed to advancing Goal 13 on “climate action” and Goal 7 on “affordable and clean energy” through our core business. Vestas contribute to Goal 8 on “decent work and economic growth” by creating jobs during our manufacturing processes and construction of wind farms through service duration. Goal 4 on “quality education” is the key to social mobility as well as a driver of employability. It is an essential part of community development near Vestas' wind farms, both within training, skills and knowledge development. Goal 12 on “responsible production and consumption” concerns Vestas' material footprint and our strong focus on how to reduce, reuse and recycle. Developing wind turbines that have the least environmental impact and a documented environmental performance ensures a responsible interaction with the environment. Finally, Goal 17 on “partnerships for the goals” constitutes Vestas' way of doing business wherein Vestas engages in inclusive partnerships with other companies, governments, local authorities and civil society and regards the SDGs as a set of shared goals that are to be achieved through a solution-focused approach.
